History of Girona
Around 77 BC Pompey built an oppidum on the Vía Heráclea and the Roman occupiers founded the original Girona.
The new city of Gerunda was repopulated with the inhabitants of the town of San Julián de Ramis.
During the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries the city continued growing
By 1889, the spanish army General abolished the category of stronghold that Girona held and allowed the demolition of part of the city's southern walls. Girona began to take the form it has today.
The Cathedral
The cathedral of Santa Maria of Girona is located in the highest point of the city. It was builded from the fourteen century to the eighteen century. It has different arquitechtonic styles, like romanic, gothyc and baroque, The main characteristic of the cathedral is that is has the widest nave in the world. It has too a beautiful stairs and a big rosette. A curiosity is that in this stairs and in this square was filmed the serie Game of Thrones.
The hanging houses
This houses with a very good looking i’m beyond to, are build just in the sides of river Onyar, they are so close to the river they seem to be floating, and you could even jump to the water from the houses. i’m standing at the bridge named pont eiffel, this bridge was built on 1876, as a curiosity of the bridges we can say that none of the bridges built during the middle age are remaining until the day, evendo there is a total of 4 bridges in all over the city these one is the most visited for the tourist and at our opinion is the coolest one, cool right? lets follow our tour!
Jewish neighborhood
The jewish neighbourhood of Girona was habitated by one of the most important jewish comunities. Here, lived the jewish people of the counted of Girona, in Girona lived an average of about 800 people. The most important buildings of the jewish comunity were the sinagoga and the micvé.
